MJ Sutton

Creative Director. Survivor of the Quiet.

There was a year I went quiet. Not creatively dead, just gone underground, the kind of quiet that looks like nothing is happening but everything is rearranging itself in the dark. No camera in my hand. No reason to pick one up.

The shadows called me back before the light did. That is the truth and I am done pretending otherwise. I did not return to photography chasing pretty pictures. I returned chasing the thing that actually matters, the moment a person stops performing and starts existing in front of the lens.

Knotted Tree Studios was built from scratch out of that return. No investors, no formula, no studio playbook borrowed from somebody else's brand. Just a camera, a willingness to sit in the dark with people while they tell the truth, and a refusal to fake the light when the truth lives in the shadow instead.

Studio Philosophy

A Creative Mind Is a Perpetual Student.

I do not believe in arriving. The day a photographer thinks they have learned everything is the day the work goes flat and starts repeating itself. I am still studying light the same way I was studying it the first year I picked up a camera, except now I know enough to know how much I do not know.

Every session teaches me something new about shadow, about trust, about how a person's face changes the moment they stop bracing for the photo and start living in it. KTS is not a finished brand. It is a perpetual student wearing a business license.

What We Offer

The Dark Is Where We Live. The Light Is Where Most People Are. We Work In Both.

The Dark Art

Fine art boudoir, maternity, nude, and dark fantasy editorial photography. This is the work that keeps us up at night, the stuff that fills our head before a shoot and stays with us long after. Cinematic, atmospheric, and built to last. If you are drawn to the shadows, you are in the right place. This is what KTS was made for.

The Light Work

Not everyone lives in the dark and we respect that. Families, graduates, couples, and anyone who just wants great portraits done right. We bring the same level of care, professionalism, and intentionality to every session regardless of the aesthetic. The style changes. The standard does not.

Whatever brought you here, you are welcome. Reach out and we will figure out the right fit together.
